What do I do on Monday 7 September in Copenhagen?

Do not plan SMK, Glyptoteket, the David Collection, Copenhagen Contemporary, Designmuseum Denmark, ARKEN or Louisiana on Monday — they are closed on Mondays. The most important point first: 7 September is a Monday. Many art museums are closed on Mondays. Start the week wrong and you face a locked door with a valid card in your hand.

How the card works

Get the free personal K7 card at k7k7.dk before your visit. It lives on your phone and is shown at the door. It is valid only in week 37 at participating venues. DAC states the card is scanned at the entrance — bring photo ID.

Put the expensive museums first

K7 is worth most where the normal ticket costs most. Normal prices without K7, from the venues' own sites:

If you want two expensive ones in one week, put them on separate days. Louisiana or ARKEN alone fills an afternoon. Do not squeeze Louisiana + ARKEN + Blue Planet into the same day.

Three days that work

Classic Tuesday–Wednesday. Start at SMK and continue to Hirschsprung and the David Collection. Wednesday is the key: SMK stays open until 20, the David Collection until 21 with always-free entry. The David Collection has a free app and tablets in Danish and English, so bring your earphones. Save SMK for Wednesday — it is closed on Monday.

Contemporary Thursday. Thursday is the late day for contemporary art: Copenhagen Contemporary, DAC and Glyptoteket all stay open until 21. CC shows Fire & Ice on Greenland from 11 September with a free preview on 10 September 17–22 according to CC — plan CC for Thursday or the weekend if that is the exhibition you are going for. James Turrell's Aftershock is permanent.

History + city. Spend Monday at the National Museum, the Museum of Freedom and the Workers Museum or the Museum of Copenhagen — they can all open the week. If Monday is already spent on the National Museum and Rosenborg, take the Workers Museum or the Museum of Copenhagen on Thursday, when both stay open until 20.

Two venues per day is enough. Three is too many when there is a queue at the door.

Evenings in the K7 week: Thursday is strongest

Thursday 10 September is the evening when most stays open late: Glyptoteket until 21, CC until 21, DAC until 21, Designmuseum until 20, Workers Museum until 20, Museum of Copenhagen until 20, ARKEN until 21. Plus Planetarium Tuesday–Wednesday until 20 and Thursday until 20.30.

Wednesday 9 September is the SMK evening (until 20) and the David evening (until 21). Louisiana runs Tuesday–Friday 11–22 all week — the exception that saves a late Tuesday.

Arrive earlier than the closing time suggests. Designmuseum stops ticket sales one hour before closing. Be inside in good time.
